How Much Water?
Aralias, also know as paper plants, like to be kept moist, but not soggy, as they are susceptible to root rot. Adding a layer of pebbles or rocks under the soil of your plant can help with drainage. Let the top inch or so of soil dry out between waterings. If in doubt, wait until the leaves get a little droopy and then water immediately.
How Much Sun?
Aralias like bright indirect light, they can survive in medium to low light, but their foliage will be less colorful. Leaves can scorch if in direct sun, so if your plant's leaves get a little bit brown or crispy, move it to a less sunny spot.
Best Temp & Humidity?
This plant prefers a medium humidity. A pebble tray to boost humidity will make your plant very happy. Avoid spritzing with water as these plants can be susceptible to powdery mildew. These plants will do at regular home temperatures, but prefer to not drop below 60 F. They also don't react well to sudden changes in temperature or humidity so they prefer to not be placed near heat/AC vents.
Your Aralia can grow quite tall so a yearly pruning can help keep it bushy and to a manageable size.
Aralias are non-toxic and can be a good alternative to gryphon or cane begonias for those who live with small humans or pets.
